Last week, the Faculty of Business and Law held its first in-person joint meeting of the business and law school advisory boards.
Relaunching the advisory boards and having a shared meeting was an important step in securing robust support to the faculty, and specifically, in building the employability potential of our graduates. The event took place in the Portrait Room and Adam Room of Grove House.
As part of the event, advisory board members provided bespoke support to over 25
business and law students through a speed mentoring event, where final year students were given career advice, mentoring and opportunities from different advisory board members.
The time and the format was designed so that within a limited period of time, students could talk to and benefit from the insights of several industry professionals, before moving over to talk to the next professional. The composition of the advisory boards, representing various areas of business, public sector, government, and legal roles allowed students to gain a cross-sector overview in a condensed format.
The format proved highly engaging, with a law student commenting, “In the three years of my studies, this was the most impactful and condense opportunity to meet outstanding law professionals.”
Based on the success of the first advisory board speed mentoring event, the faculty plans to host further similar occasions in the next semester.
