The University of Roehampton has been recognised as one of London's leading universities in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2026, ranking third in London for University of the Year and climbing 27 places nationally to 26th in the UK rankings, based on feedback from 1,297 verified students.
Roehampton has also been named:
- Named London's #1 university for student life
- Named London's #1 university for postgraduate study
- Ranked 2nd in London for international students
- Placed in the UK Top 20 for postgraduate student experience
- Placed in the UK Top 20 for international student experience.
Supporting students to succeed remains central to the Roehampton experience, with scholarships and bursaries available to recognise achievement and provide additional financial support. This includes the new Commuter Bursary, which offers eligible students up to £1,000 per year towards travel costs, helping to make studying in London more affordable.
Roehampton's commitment to value is also reflected in the cost of living for students. The University was recently named London's best-value university for student accommodation in independent research by Monzo, with average halls costs of £191 per week compared with the London average of £281 per week.
Professor Jean-Noël Ezingeard, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Roehampton, said:
"Our students are at the heart of everything we do, which is why recognition based on their experiences and feedback is particularly rewarding. These results reflect the supportive community we have built together and the commitment of colleagues across the University to helping every student thrive academically, personally and professionally.
"We are delighted to see Roehampton recognised so strongly across postgraduate study, student life and the wider student experience. While we are proud of what these results say about our University today, they also inspire us to continue improving and ensuring that every student benefits from an outstanding university experience."
The headline results were supported by significant improvements across several key measures. Roehampton rose 15 places to rank 21st nationally for Lecturers and Teaching Quality, climbed 46 places to 26th for Facilities, and improved by 39 places to 29th for Student Support, demonstrating substantial progress across the areas students value most.
This success reflects Roehampton's student-centred approach, including our flexible timetables, with most undergraduate programmes taught across no more than three days each week throughout all three years of study. This enables students to maximise their time with lecturers while balancing independent study, part-time work and other commitments.
The University also continued to perform strongly in areas that shape day-to-day campus life. Roehampton ranked 19th nationally for Halls and Student Accommodation, rising five places from the previous year, while Student Life improved by four places to 25th nationally. Combined with Roehampton's position as London's number one university for Student Life, these results highlight the vibrant, supportive and inclusive community students experience on campus.
The Whatuni Student Choice Awards are the UK's largest annual university awards decided exclusively by students and are widely recognised as the leading student-led alternative to traditional university rankings. Based entirely on verified student reviews, they provide valuable insight into teaching quality, facilities, accommodation, student support and campus life.
