Specific entry requirements

The programme is designed for students with existing Level Postgraduate Diploma level qualifications in Education Leadership and Management, equivalent to 120 Level-7 credits. We can also accept 120 Level-7 credits on a similar programme (PC to check if this is applicable). The programme will also allow, exceptionally, an APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning) entry for candidates who have extensive senior management experience that covers elements associated with the Education Leadership and Management subject areas. As recommended by Registry, APEL would need to be claimed (Rev. Academic Office Nov 2021 2 of 11) through producing a portfolio which will evidence the request for academic credit. Two academic staff members will assess the APEL portfolio on the suitability of the claim and if there is a need for additional evidence. RPCL and APEL verification may include a written exercise and an interview with the Programme Convenor or equivalent.

Course and Module Details

Overview

The MSc Education Leadership and Management (top-up) is designed for students who can demonstrate attainment of 120 credits at Level 7 through an RPCL (Recognition of Prior Certificated Learning) process, and in exceptional cases, through an APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning) process. The programme will allow students to top-up their existing diploma level qualification and or exceptionally, equivalent experience, to an MSc.

The students will learn in a stimulating active blended learning environment that values critical appraisal and reflective practice. Learning in the modules will be constructed to consider theory in practice allowing students to draw on their current practice to develop a practical, evidence-based approach to leadership in education.

Students will be taught online using a combination of lectures, seminars, and discussion groups to facilitate learning. Students will be asked to engage with module resources prior to sessions to facilitate problem solving discussions that draw on research, professional experiences, and reflection on practice.
