Lowering cholesterol efficacy of Lactobacillus plantarum ECGC 13110402 LPLDL® in hypercholesterolaemic adults

Description. Lactobacilli are common components of the human intestine and used by the food industry as probiotics for general health benefits. A randomised, controlled human study with LPLDL® was performed by Dr Costabile with 50 hypercholesterolemic subjects (Costabile A et al., 2017; PLoS One. Dec 11;12(12):e0187964). LPLDL® showed to: be completely safe and well tolerated; lower total cholesterol by up to 36.7%; lower LDL cholesterol by up to 13.9%; Increase HDL cholesterol by up to 6.5%; lower systolic blood pressure by 5.1%. The project is a follow up pilot study in 18 hypercholesterolaemic (TC > 6) adults to assess the impact of a seletcted probiotic in health and disease.
