Academic & study

You'll be learning in teaching spaces, computer rooms, and lecture theatres but for some of our courses you'll study in more specialised facilities to ensure you gain the hands-on practical skills you need. We've broken down the facilities by subject-area, so you can take a look at what these facilities are.

Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

You'll learn in cutting-edge environments, with access to:

  • Dedicated computer and study rooms, equipped with advanced software
  • Media facilities, with industry-standard tools where you'll explore 3D modelling and game prototyping
  • Esports Arena which features 20 high-performance PCs powered by i9CPUS, RTX 3080 graphic cards and 240Hz Zowie monitors

Our cutting-edge digital media centre is massive - 2,000 square-metres to be exact - and is a modern, creative space perfect for hands-on projects, group work or quiet study time. Facilities include:

  • Two newsrooms
  • High-tech film studios with sound editing, radio, and podcasting gear
  • Two audio recording studios
  • 95 seat cinema
  • Computer labs with extensive software

You'll gain hands-on learning through:

  • Six dedicated computing labs equipped with specialised facilities, including a dedicated cyber security lab
  • Access to all the software you need anytime using your personal device

You'll have opportunities to train with the latest tech to help develop your artistry, facilities include:

  • Four dedicated studios
  • Michaelis Theatre - a 350-seat performance space fitted with technology for sound and video recording, dance-computer interaction and video projection, as well as a fully equipped drama performance research studio space
  • Dance library with over 52,000 books, journals, and videos

To inspire your creativity, our cutting-edge media centre has:

  • Mac suites packed with all the latest software you'll need, like Adobe CC Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and After Effects

You'll find hundreds of thousands of books in our library. There's over 1,000 seats, and modern, collaborative and silent study spaces, which you can book and also a Café. But it doesn't stop there, you'll also have access to a vast range of online resources, like e-books, journals, and databases whenever you want.

The library is also home to our Archives and Special Collections, which has rare books, original documents, and artefacts.

Life and Health Sciences

To help you get the skills and confidence you need, you'll have opportunities to study in these facilities:

  • Clinical Simulation Centre - which features advanced patient simulators, video streaming technology and the 'Froebel Ward' - a fully functional six-bed hospital ward, as well as mock consulting rooms, patient homes, and a stimulated apartment
  • Mary Seacole Innovation Centre - this multi-disciplinary space focuses on primary and community healthcare, with cutting edge technology
  • Croydon University Centre - a fully functioning ward, practice nurse rooms, simulated home and community environments and bespoke teaching rooms

You’ll work in exceptional learning facilities, including:

  • Laboratories equipped for DNA analysis, electrophysiology, microscopy, and more
  • High-spec computer suites, supported by a team of expert laboratory and IT technicians

You'll find our world-class sports and exercise physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition laboratories at Whitelands College. Our facilities, used by top professional athletes include:

  • Walk-in Environmental Chamber
  • Physiology laboratories
  • Advanced Optical Motion Analysis Systems (Vicon and Peak Motus)
  • Kistler Force Plates
  • Motion Tracking Sensors

You'll also have access to our Clinical Simulation Centre and Mary Seacole Innovation Centre equipped with simulation wards and consultation rooms. On-campus sports facilities such as a sports hall and gymnasium and high-spec computer suites.

We have a professional counselling service onsite as well as a mental health advising service. You can book 1:1 appointments with Wellbeing Officers, either in-person or online at the Richardson Building, in the Wellbeing Centre.

The Hub - careers and employability

Our Student Futures team, based in The Hub in Elm Grove, will support you with your future careers, even once you've graduated. We also have an onsite recruitment agency, URJobs, if you need help finding part-time work whilst studying.
