This apprenticeship is ideal if you're employed by a construction company and would like to gain a qualification to enable you to fulfil the role of construction site supervisor.

This apprenticeship will provide you with the knowledge, skills, behaviours and support to help develop your understanding of the technology, health and safety, management practices, sustainability, ethics and professional code of conduct in construction site supervision.

You will develop your skills to undertake the main duties and tasks of a Construction Site Supervisor, which includes:

  • Supervision of specialist contractors
  • The control of health and safety standards on construction projects
  • Recording, control and reporting of progress on a construction project
  • The minimisation of the environmental impact of construction projects
  • Control of quality of works on a construction project
  • Assisting commercial staff with the monitoring of costs on a construction project

Learning & assessment

Learning and teaching strategies are underpinned by project-based learning, philosophy and supported by the project and case studies provided by the industry.

You wiil develop your independent learning skills through research and inquiry-based approaches and team building and collaboration skills through group working in interdisciplinary.

There will be minimal use of lectures which will be used to develop knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. Key learning takes places via workshops, seminars and group working. 

To complement your workplace learning, you will engage in six hours of off-the-job training each week.
 
This structured academic study is carefully crafted to deepen theoretical understanding, enriching the ability to apply knowledge effectively within the workplace and integrate new concepts.

You will be allocated a Personal Tutor for each year of the apprenticeship, who will be the first academic point of contact who will advise on academic issues, signpost you to wider areas of support for mitigating circumstances, counselling, health and wellbeing concerns and careers advice as needed.

They play a crucial role in ensuring that any issues are addressed timely so you progress with your studies smoothly and complete your apprenticeship successfully.

How you'll be assessed

You will be assessed using a combination of strategies, such as the submission of technical reports, lab reports, essays, in-class open and closed book tests, online assessments, and oral presentations. 

The programme includes both formative assessment, with respect to interim reviews and feedback / feedforward and summative assessment, which will be carried out in accordance with the university’s assessment policy.

Entry requirements 

  • A UCAS tariff score between 96 - 112 points 
  • A minimum of two full A-levels (or equivalent) will be required 
  • GCSE in English and Maths grade 4.0 (C) or above is required. 

OR 

  • Level 3 apprenticeship in a construction or property related discipline
  • Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment

 

You must be employed in an appropriate apprenticeship role to be eligible for this course. 

Additional requirements: Interview with Apprentice, Employer, Programme Leader and Director/Head of Apprenticeship (including Skills Scan, Functional Skills equivalency check, recognition of Prior Learning.
