Work placements

Putting your passion into practice

Turn your skills into experience, expand your professional network, and boost your employability.

As an undergraduate student, a placement year is your opportunity to get work experience, build your professional network, apply the skills you've developed at university to the workplace, and ensure your CV stands out when you graduate.

Alongside the valuable skills and experience you’ll develop professionally, if you complete a placement year it’ll be stated on your degree transcript.

Placements on some degrees such as Primary Education, PGCE, and Nursing are compulsory and you can find out more about this on the relevant course pages.

On all other degrees, you may choose to take a placement year, which is a full-time internship that is taken between your second and third years and lasts between 10 and 12 months.

After your placement, you’ll return to the university to complete your final year of study.

While securing a placement is your responsibility, we’re here to support and guide you through every step to help you achieve your ambitions.

Go to the Job Hunting section here for ideas on sourcing a placement.

The placement must be closely relevant to your degree in order to be approved by the university. Once it is approved, your degree (and visa where applicable) will be extended by one year in order for you to fit this experience between your second and third year of academic studies.

In order your undergraduate placement to be approved by the university, you will need to fill this form and upload the documents listed.

For all enquires about undergraduate placements please email placements@roehampton.ac.uk.

Professional Experience Year

You can only opt for a degree with a Professional Experience Year when you enrol, or within the first three weeks of your course.
