Dr. Maki Kawamura is a palliative care physician and peace advocate whose work connects compassionate healthcare with global peacebuilding. She is Vice President of the Goi Peace Foundation, where she helps create opportunities for people from diverse cultures, religions and professions to explore peace as a lived value through dialogue, education and international initiatives.
Through the Foundation, Dr. Kawamura has supported international youth platforms that connect young people across borders and contributed to the Goi Peace Award, which recognises individuals and organisations whose work advances peace, harmony and a sustainable future.
Alongside her international work, Dr. Kawamura has dedicated her medical career to supporting patients and families with dignity at the end of life. At Kawamura Hospital, she established a hospice ward, and she later founded a nonprofit organisation and developed the 414 Dialogue Cards, which encourage meaningful conversations across generations about values, life and end-of-life care. The initiative, which has been widely used across Japan, is now expanding internationally to support cross-cultural dialogue and peacebuilding.
