University of Roehampton and Croydon College partner to expand vocational higher education in Croydon
- Wednesday, July 15, 2020
The University of Roehampton and Croydon College have today announced a partnership which will expand opportunities in Croydon for people to access university education from 2021.
The partnership, which comes into full effect in September next year, will see students study University of Roehampton degrees at Croydon College.
A BSc in Adult Nursing will be among the first degrees delivered, which will include a new dedicated nursing suite at the College, with work also underway to deliver an innovative new course for staff in the further education sector.
Croydon College and University of Roehampton already have a strong historical relationship, with many students from the College already choosing Roehampton as a natural transition into higher education.
As a further development, and in recognition of the need for a safe, local place to learn during the current public health situation, a new University of Roehampton Study Centre will be opened at Croydon College from this September enabling Croydon College students who are enrolled in degrees in the main University of Roehampton campus the chance to study remotely in an educational setting closer to home.
Professor Jean-Noël Ezingeard, Vice-Chancellor of Roehampton said:
“The University of Roehampton has a proud history of providing higher education for more than 175 years. We are particularly committed to providing opportunities for people from all backgrounds and supporting our community through our teaching and research. Partnering with Croydon College, which shares our values and aspiration for their students, will enable us to provide excellent higher education to the people of Croydon and support for its businesses, education and health sectors, sporting and creative industries”.
Caireen Mitchell, Principal & CEO of Croydon College said:
“Croydon College is proud to be partnering with the University of Roehampton, building on a strong relationship with a University that is already a popular choice for our students, who will see the benefit of being able to study locally as part of a London based campus.
“Croydon College is committed to providing the communities we serve with the opportunity to access further and higher education locally, continuing to support the needs of our residents and employers and enabling both to thrive. We look forward to working together with Roehampton on our shared vision to meet the aspirations of our community and the needs of the economy.”
Further details of the new partnership include:
- A scholarship programme for Croydon College students to study other degrees at the University of Roehampton, providing further opportunities.
- Future plans within the partnership will also include provision of degrees in wider areas of study, including those that support the creative industries.
- Both organisations will also collaborate on a range of activities, including sharing best practise in education and student support.
