Roehampton’s business and law students had the opportunity to connect with multiple employers and alumni throughout November.
Career Development Week took place between 4 – 8 November and was a great opportunity for students to ask questions and engage with various employers online and on campus through in-person talks, events, sessions and panel discussions. Students were able to ask questions and gain invaluable insight into their future careers with employers such as Vodafone and the BBC.
Students were able to meet and chat with alumni and find out how the latest technology will impact their career development. They also got advice on writing effective CV’s and top tips on creating a stand-out LinkedIn profile alongside getting hands-on interview experience.
One of the events was a discussion focused on career prospects and growth opportunities in the green sector, one of the most rapidly developing areas around the world. Panels included Simon King from Edenseven Consultancy, an experienced Sustainability senior leader, Matthew Quinn, Roehampton Marketing graduate and owner of GoSoLocal, and recent Roehampton alumni Jonathan Nobrega.
The panel discussed the array of careers linked to sustainability and how a ‘green job’ can be anything you want it to be. They all agreed that business was the biggest platform for change and that all areas within an organisation needed to work together to become sustainable, from creating green legal contracts to encouraging consumers to buy green products. Their tips for writing a standout CV included highlighting both academic and personal achievements and writing about experiences that align with the company you’re interested in working for.
Students also had the opportunity to network with employers at our ‘Business and Computing Fair’ on 20 November. Representatives from HSBC, Enterprise, Microsoft and Investment 2020 came together in Digby Chapel to give advice and tips on how to succeed in their industries. Students were able to find out more abour upcoming opportunities, such as graduate schemes an internships and ask questions.
