10 academics from the University of Roehampton have been ranked amongst the world’s top 2% researchers in key rankings.
The list also includes many emeritus staff, including Professor John Eade, who recently retired from his role at Roehampton.
Mick Cooper, Professor of Counselling Psychology and Director of the Centre for Research in Psychological Wellbeing (CREW), was included in the list. Mick is a globally acknowledged expert in counselling and psychotherapy, a chartered psychologist, and the author of several books on humanistic, existential, and relational therapy approaches.

Mick said, “It’s great to have our research work recognised in this way. In areas such as adolescent mental health, Roehampton researchers are amongst the leading in the world, generating innovative and effective interventions and approaches that can make a genuine difference to the lives of the people and communities around us.”
Developed by Stanford University professor, John Ioannidis, the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientist Rankings list for 2025 is based on citations from 2023, updated to the end of 2024 and uses metrics like h-index, co-authorship adjustments, and a composite citation score (c-score), which reflects a scientist’s influence rather than just their publication count. Scientists are ranked based on Scopus data, with the top 100,000 or those in the top 2% of their field included. You can view the full list by visiting the Elsevier Data Repository.
