On the 20th January students from University of Roehampton MA International Relations programme visited the heart of British politics, the House of Parliament.

As part of the Applied International Relations module led by Professor Yossi Mekelberg’s, students visited the UK Houses of Parliament, where they were hosted by Fleur Anderson, MP for Putney, Roehampton, Southfields and Wandsworth Town.
During the visit, students were able to attend a Foreign Affairs Committee session examining the UK Government’s China Audit, which was followed by questions to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, led by the Foreign Secretary Yvette Coppoer. This gave them a valuable insight of how international policy is conducted by the government and scrutinised by Parliament.
The day continued at Chatham House, also known as, The Royal Institute of International Affairs. Students were invited to attend an expert panel discussion from the MENA Programme, exploring a key question in global politics: is the Middle East and North Africa region becoming more stable, or facing increasing challenges? The discussion offered in-depth insight into current political and security developments across the region.
The visit forms part of the programme’s applied learning approach, enabling students to link academic study with real-world diplomacy, policy-making and current global debates.
