Should society be concerned about a world where journalistic articles are often written with the aid of artificial intelligence? The ethical and legal challenges thrown up by such a scenario are numerous and far-reaching. And since the release of ChatGPT, this proposition looks more plausible than ever. A team comprised of Dr Sean Tunney and Dr Adam Cox from Journalism and Dr Yuwei Lin from Digital Media, alongside Dr Athanasia Batziou from Imperial College, London, has been funded by the university to discover how trainee journalists interact with and understand AI, when encouraged to utilise it. Our research aims to further understand the risks for industry media practice and the implications for universities in training the next generation of journalists.
