How Do Birds Fly? A Hands-On Exploration of Flight!

Discover the fascinating science behind bird flight in this interactive laboratory session designed to bring biology and physics together. You’ll explore how birds generate the thrust needed for take-off and sustained flight, and how wing shape and structure are perfectly adapted for life in the air.

Using a live experimental set-up, you’ll get hands-on experience investigating how changes in wind speed and wing angle affect lift and thrust. By adjusting airflow and observing real-time effects, you’ll see first-hand how small changes in wing orientation can make a big difference to flight performance.

The session also connects biology to real-world innovation, showing how principles of bird flight inspire modern aircraft wing design and the development of drones. If you’re curious about how nature influences technology and want to experience what practical biological science is really like, this session offers an exciting glimpse into the importance of studying BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences.

Then, get up close with strapping and taping techniques that support the knee, from immediate acute care to long-term rehabilitation strategies.

This session is perfect for students with curiosity to learn about sport therapy in healthcare, physiotherapy, or sport medicine. Experience the skills, techniques, and decision-making that go into keeping people moving, and discover the exciting challenges of working with musculoskeletal injuries.
