Course overview

The QTS Assessment only route is designed for experienced and skilled teachers who wish to gain formal recognition as qualified teachers without undergoing additional training. 

This course provides a structured assessment process to assess candidates against the Teachers' Standards, ensuring they meet the requirements for QTS. 

You will demonstrate your teaching competence through lesson observations, portfolio submissions, and professional discussions.

  • Successfully demonstrate mastery of the Teachers' Standards in the relevant key stages and subjects
  • Provide evidence of effective planning, teaching, and assessment practices in a school setting
  • Reflect on and improve teaching practice through feedback and self-evaluation
  • Demonstate the ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners
  • Achieve QTS and progress into a professional teaching career

Entry requirements

In order to apply for this course you must have met the following conditions:

  • A UK honours degree (2:2 or above)
  • A minimum of two years teaching expereince in at least two schools
  • Experience of teaching across the age range you wish to gain QTS in (3 - 7, 5 - 11, 11 - 16, 11 - 18, 14 - 18)
  • Be employed in a school that will support you during this process
  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4/C or above (and Science for Primary)

In addition:

  • If your expression of interest meets the criteria for the course, you will be interviewed with your employer
  • You will be expected to take a literacy and numeracy test at the interview
