During your course, you’ll undertake professional placements to ensure that you’re career ready before you graduate. We have agreements in place with a broad mix of clinical placement partners, including:

  • NHS Trusts: St George’s University Hospitals, Kingston Hospital, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals, Croydon Health Services, Imperial College (Hammersmith, Charing Cross, and St Mary’s Hospitals), London North West University Healthcare Hospitals, and North Middlesex University Hospital
  • Community health services: Your Healthcare, Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Sutton Health and Care, Croydon Health Services, and Surrey Heartlands
  • Primary care nursing: Sutton, Kingston, Richmond, Croydon, Merton and Wandsworth Training Hubs
  • Mental health providers: The Priory, Roehampton, Holybourne Hospital, Roehampton, South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust

You can also choose to organise your own elective placement abroad.

Recognising that our students our individuals with different personal circumstances, we give you the choice of taking this course at our main Roehampton campus or at Croydon University Centre. We hope this will enable you to balance your studies with family and other external commitments.

Wherever you choose to study we’ll support you every step of the way, with in-person and online academic help, wellbeing services, careers advice, and financial and hardship support. Home Nursing students receive a non-repayable grant of £5,000 each academic year from the NHS, with additional support available.

Hi, I'm Luke Cox. I work at Roehampton as a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Skills and Simulation, and I am a registered nurse with a background in Emergency Nursing. I lead the Year 2 skills curriculum for pre-registration nursing students, and I teach on a range of modules for Nursing students and Nursing Associate trainees. At Roehampton we have a range of simulated clinical environments, and one of the things I am passionate about is using simulation to recreate the real situations our students will face in practice - this helps them become safer and more competent practitioners.

My name is Mariama Seray-Wurie, Associate Professor and Head of Practice Learning for Healthcare Education. I am the lead for practice learning and oversee the management of clinical placements for our healthcare programmes. My background is mainly in pre-registration nursing education and my teaching interests include curriculum development, use of simulation pedagogy within nursing curriculum contributing as an author in nursing topics related to teaching and learning, clinical skills, diversity, inclusivity and cultural awareness within healthcare practice and nurse education. A key part of my role involves working collaboratively with practice learning partners within the NHS and other private, independent and voluntary providers of healthcare to maintain a positive working relationship with partners as they support your learning when you are undertaking practice placement experiences, and I really enjoy talking to students about how you can get the best out of your placement experiences and develop professionally.   

I am a senior lecturer in Nursing Education. I'm the lead for part 1, for cohorts that join the BSc Nursing Programme in February. You may get to meet me on open days or during interviews. We will also meet in a variety of modules I teach across year 1-3 for BSc and year 4 for MSc students. I may also get to meet and support you on my linking duties at Kingston Hospital. I enjoy teaching and learning from students and want students to have the best possible experiences with us! My main interests are currently around leadership in healthcare and impact of generative AI in learning.

My name is Maria Cozens, I am a dual qualified nurse in learning disabilties and mental health with almost 20 years of experience in the healthcare field. I am passionate about supporting others to achieve their goals in life whatever that might be!  Here at Roehampton I teach across a range of pre-registration modules across the years up to Masters level. I am also the course lead for the Nursing Masters Course where I lead on supporting students undertaking a dual field nursing course.

 

I am very passionate about working as a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing. I have a background in Psychology, and I am also a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist. You may be interested to know that I have achieved my goals and aspirations through
hard work, commitment and dedication. Of-course along the way, I have had inspiring tutors doctors and nurses who have helped develop my knowledge and skills. I am a senior lecturer in adult nursing based at the Croydon campus. I am module leader for nursing practice 1 module in part 1 of the BSc nursing programme and developing self and others for nursing practice in parts 3 of the BSc nursing programme. I support in nursing practice 3 and managing the deterioration in adults modules. My other roles include part 1 lead and link lecturer for Croydon university hospital supporting students during their placements in the acute settings. I have a keen interest in simulation-based education and have played an essential role in developing simulated practice learning placements for nursing students at Roehampton university. I enjoy creating experiential learning and supporting nursing students in their journeys towards qualification. 

I am an Associate Professor of Mental Health and a Senior teaching fellow in the School of life and Health Sciences. I lead a team of mental health nurse academics in the planning and delivery of pre and post reg Mental Health programmes, including CPD. My teaching and research interests focus on best practice relating to parity of esteem, with reference to improving physical health outcomes in SMI, appropriate, safe, and effective use of psychopharmacological agents, and recovery approaches. I have worked in various Higher Education and NHS settings, including General practice, secondary and primary care services. I am a specialist clinical advisor to the CQC, supporting with inspections of community and hospital MH settings. I sit on His Majesty's Courts and Tribunal Service- The First Tier-Mental Health Review Tribunal as a Specialist Panel Member. I am an editorial board member for the British of Journal of Mental Health Nursing and an External Examiner at Bournemouth University on a range of CPD modules. I am also a Peer reviewer for various journals including Mental Health Practice (RCNi).

I am also a co-director and lead for Education and Training for a CIC diaspora Health association, Uganda Nurses, and Midwives Association UK

I am a lecturer in adult nursing, my clinical nursing background is in cardiology. I am based in the university’s Croydon campus, but I lead and teach on modules at both Roehampton and Croydon. I teach on the nursing degree programmes and the nursing apprenticeship programmes. I am also the Part 2 (year 2) Lead at Croydon, this means I oversee the Part 2 students throughout their studies offering support and guidance where needed. My areas of interest are in pre-registration nurse education and nurse education policy. I am currently leading on the creation and delivery of the I-CAN project which supports care-experienced young people to take the first steps into health and social care careers. The experience and development of our nursing students is very important to me. I take great pride in helping our nursing students develop into professional registered nurses but also into independent learners, who will be able to undertake further study and research after completing the programme. Supporting students to reach their potential and achieve their ambition is an amazing privilege and I consider myself lucky to be a part of the journey from student nurse to registered nurse. 

Assessment

Your clinical skills will be evaluated through simulation-based assessments in our Clinical Simulation Centres (CSC).

Your performance and progress will also be measured on placements in various healthcare settings by both clinical and academic staff.
