This module aims to equip you with the knowledge and methods necessary to address pressing strategic, social and ethical challenges businesses face. 

It provides a critical understanding of Corporate Strategy and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in an international context. You will learn to apply strategic concepts and tools essential for managers in multinational firms, with a focus on sustainability practices influencing business policy and stakeholder relationships. Additionally, the module emphasises the importance of data-driven decision-making and non-market strategic management, preparing future professionals to navigate the complexities of modern business environments.

The module provides a number of essential frameworks to guide future managers in analysing the main factors relevant to the strategy-making process. These frameworks are designed to offer a structured approach to strategic analysis, ensuring that all critical aspects are considered. Real-world case studies and insights from leading corporations will be utilised to illustrate the practical application of the strategic frameworks.

All business operations transpire within a complex social landscape, and non-market aspects play a significant role in strategic management. This includes political, economic, and environmental issues that can impact organisational success. The module highlights the importance of understanding these non-market factors and incorporating them into strategic planning.

You will learn how to analyse and address social and ethical issues that businesses face today. This includes topics such as corporate governance, ethical leadership, and social justice. By understanding the broader impact of business decisions, you will be able to foster a more ethical and responsible business culture.

Teaching and learning

You will gain a comprehensive understanding of strategic decision-making and how to apply it within business contexts. Each week, you will participate in a carefully organised learning experience comprising of a one-hour lecture and a three-hour workshop. 

Lectures will introduce and elaborate on key concepts and frameworks pertinent to strategic decision-making. These sessions are designed around the indicative course content, aiming to give you a solid theoretical foundation. The lecture topics will encompass a broad spectrum of examples and case-based learning drawn from business practices and societal contexts to demonstrate the practical applications of these concepts. This approach ensures that you can relate theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, thereby enhancing their comprehension and retention of the material.

Workshops will delve deeper into the theoretical approaches, exploring the detailed exploration of business cases. You will examine various scenarios that are likely to arise in organisational, management, and business situations.

You will engage with real-life case studies; where you will learn to navigate complex ethical issues and make informed decisions that are both strategic and responsible. You will explore global sustainability challenges and opportunities, learning how to drive innovation through sustainable practices and responsible leadership.

You will also have 30 minutes of online support, which will include resources such as articles, videos, interactive modules and quizzes.

Assessment

This module will be assessed using a group presentation and an individual case study.

50% - group presentation, where you will focus on a specific problem.

50% - individual case study report, where you will critically discuss and evaluate a company’s strategic sustainability issue(s).

In today’s business landscape, project management is a strategic driver of transformation. This module will equip you with advanced capabilities in strategic project execution, enabling you to navigate complex stakeholder ecosystems while embedding principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and ensuring sustainable value.

You will develop essential competencies for leading major projects in global organisations by integrating contemporary methodologies with emerging practices in digital transformation, sustainability, and cross-cultural leadership. You will engage with advanced frameworks for strategic alignment, benefit realisation, and sustainable delivery, ensuring you are well-prepared for senior project leadership roles.

Using a blended learning approach, including experiential learning, digital simulations, and industry engagement, you will develop both theoretical understanding and practical expertise. 

Core study areas include strategic project leadership, sustainable execution, digital transformation, and global project governance, with a strong emphasis on digital competency and technology-enabled decision-making.

Aligned with Association for Project Managers (APM) and Project Management Institute (PMI) professional certification standards, the module enhances career readiness through industry mentoring and networking opportunities. You will gain expertise in strategic execution, stakeholder management, and leadership in digital transformation and cross-cultural teams, preparing you for roles such as project strategist, transformation lead, and programme director.

Lectures are developed around the key concepts and frameworks used in strategic decision making and use a range of examples and cases from business practice and society to demonstrate the application of concepts.

Seminars will concentrate particularly on the elaboration of specific theoretical approaches with reference to their possible application through the selection of business cases which are likely to arise in organisational, management, and business situations. Seminars will include the discussion of case studies and business dilemmas.

You will also have 30 minutes of online support.

Assessment

This module will be assessed using an individual project initiation brief and case study report.

30% - individual project initiation brief, which involved a project initiation and planning phase

50% - individual case study report, where you will analyse a complex project scenario and produce a report proposing strategic recommendations for value creation.

In an era of rapid digital transformation and increasing project complexity, mastering agile methodologies is essential for organisational success. 

This module develops agile leaders capable of navigating uncertainty, scaling agile practices, and delivering sustainable value across diverse global project environments. You will integrate theoretical foundations with practical application, earning the AgilePM Foundation certification alongside advanced academic content.

Responding to industry demands, the module equips you with expertise in enterprise agility, risk management in agile contexts, digital transformation strategies, and cross-cultural team leadership. By engaging with both established and emerging agile frameworks, you will develop the ability to drive innovation, enhance operational efficiency, and manage complex stakeholder ecosystems. 

The curriculum emphasises sustainable practices and inclusive leadership, preparing you for senior agile roles in global organisations.

Blending cutting-edge research with professional practice, this module will provide you with both the academic knowledge and industry-recognised credentials to work in leadership roles. With a strong focus on strategic application, governance, and scaling agile methodologies, this module will empower you to lead agile transformation and create lasting organisational impact.

Assessment

This module will be assessed using a computer-based exam and case study.

30% - multiple choice quiz, which mirrors the AgilePM Foundation exam.

70% - individual case study report, you will assume the role of Project Manager and determine the best agile methodology for the project.

This module aims to give you the advanced knowledge and skills in contemporary project management practices. It focuses on inclusive leadership, strategic alignment, global orientation, professional education, and the application of modern project management methodologies in various sectors. 

It will raise your awareness of the issues emerging from project management research and practice worldwide, as well as developing an understanding of the requirements for the leadership essential to manage corresponding changes in the conduct of projects. The key themes that drive this module support a holistic understanding of factors that influence project management today. You will develop critical-thinking skills to engage in topical debates.

You will be exposed to current issues from a range of academic and professional literature, where you will analyse in depth an issue that resonates in a specific scenario. There will be opportunity to critically evaluate the arguments and employ critical-thinking and analytical skills to challenge traditional approaches to and standards in project management.

Teaching and learning

The teaching delivery for this module consists of one, one-hour lecture and one, three-hour workshop per week.

Lectures are developed around the key concepts and frameworks used in contemporary project management and use a range of examples and cases from business practice and society to demonstrate the application of concepts.

Seminars will concentrate on the application of key ideas and concepts through the selection of contemporary case studies, which will be based on different industries and sectors.

You will also have 30 minutes of online support.

Assessment

This module will be assessed using a group presentation and case study report.

50% - individual case study report, which will include a critical discussion of a contemporary project, an evaluation of the project and relevant recommendations.

50% - group presentations, where you will tackle an issue in a contemporary project.

60 credits

You will apply your knowledge to a real-world business setting.

You will choose from three career pathways:

  1. Consultancy challenge – collaborating with international businesses, NGOs, and community organisations, through a structured consultancy challenge, you will work in teams to tackle real-world business problems. This hands-on experience not only strengthens your professional skill set but also enhances your professional and social capital and competitiveness in the global marketplace.

  2. Research internship - as a research intern, you will undertake a small research project under the supervision of experienced researchers from our Centre for Sustainability and Responsible Management. You will experience projects that are beneficial for a wide range of stakeholders, including local and central governments, businesses and charitable organisations.

  3. Start-up pathway - if you're interested in becoming a entrepreneur, this pathway is specifically designed to support you with developing of a new venture idea.

This course also offers the option of a Professional Experience Year. This programme combines dynamic career modules with flexible placement opportunities. After completing your first year of study, you'll then complete a full year of Professional Experience training as part of your degree. This will give you real career experience. Block mode teaching

This course will be taught in dedicated blocks.

This innovative approach means that you will be taught in six-week blocks that focus exclusively on one module at a time. You will be able to fully immerse yourself in each topic and apply your learning effectively. There is also flexibility to join at any entry point, every two months.

Each module block includes eight teaching hours (lectures and practical workshops) each week, over two days.
