Diet has long been the recognized as a leading risk factor for non-communicable diseases. The associated burden of non-communicable diseases cost governments trillions of dollars each year. However, a relatively new research field, nutritional psychiatry provides promising evidence for addressing this large disease burden by targeting the beneficial effects of some dietary patterns, diet quality, and dietary compounds on mental, sleep, and cognitive health. The current knowledge exchange project run by Dr Piril Hepsomali, Dr Adele Costabile, and Prof Paul Allen, is assessing the current state of experimental evidence regarding the impact of dietary compounds, and their synergistic effects, on mental, sleep, and cognitive health in order to identify whether any of these compounds have potential for incorporation into a supplement for improving mental, sleep, and cognitive health. This project is supported by funding from Optibiotix Health.
