Clearing guide for parents and guardians

Everything you need to know about joining Roehampton through Clearing.

If you’re supporting someone through Clearing, there’s plenty of advice available on this page to help them explore their options and feel confident in their next steps.

Clearing is an opportunity for them to find a course that fits their future; plans may change; we know their ambition hasn’t. A student can use Clearing if they:

  • have changed their mind about where they want to go to university, or what course they originally applied for
  • didn't get the grades for their firm or insurance choice
  • didn't receive any offers during the main application cycle
  • haven't applied to university at all.

Whatever their path, Roehampton is a place they'll belong.

Financial support that makes a difference

Scholarships, bursaries, a hardship fund and a commuter bursary of up to £1,000. Because the right university shouldn't be out of reach.

What you can do

Encourage them to sign up to our Clearing updates to give them a better understanding of the process and ensure they feel confident and prepared for applying.

How you can play a supporting role:

Come along to an open day

We’re hosting two open days this summer and we’d love to see you all there. Coming along is the ideal opportunity to get a real feel for our campussee what studying with us looks like and get your questions answered with our academics and support teams.

Calling our Clearing hotline

When your child or young person makes the call, we recommend finding a quiet and comfortable place and having everything they need in front of them.

When you speak to one of our Clearing advisors, make sure you have the following to hand:

  • A list of their Level 2 qualifications (GCSEs or equivalent) and Level 3 qualifications (A levels, BTEC, Access etc.) and the grades achieved in each
  • Their UCAS ID number if they have one. If they’re not registered to UCAS for this cycle, don’t worry, we can still help – just call us
  • What they want to study.

Our lines can be busy at peak times, but please be patient; they’ll get through to us. Calls may take a few minutes, as we carefully gather all the details and talk through the available options. They can also request a call back on Results Day, helping reduce some of the pressure.

If they already have their results, they can apply now through our application form or by calling us on 020 8392 3232.

A different pathway – foundation programmes

If your child or young person doesn’t achieve the grades they needed for a place on their course, they could consider applying for a foundation programme, or a Foundation Studies: Certificate of Higher Education. These programmes prepare students for degree-level study and a route onto a degree course.

Accepting the Clearing offer

If we’re able to make a provisional offer, we’ll do it straight away on the call.

An email will then be sent with all the details and the next steps.

Guaranteed accommodation

We guarantee accommodation for your child or young person if they apply and accept their offer by the deadline. All of our halls are based on campus, with 24/7 security in place. Bedrooms are private and lockable, giving your child or young person a safe and comfortable space to call their own. With campus wardens and flat reps available on-site, there’s always someone nearby to offer guidance and support.
