Jo Rixon
Jo Rixon is Deputy Dean for Healthcare Education at the University of Roehampton and a registered nurse with nearly 20 years’ experience in healthcare education and leadership. She joined the university in 2021 following a two-decade career in the NHS, where she worked in surgical nursing, intensive care, and a range of leadership roles across London.
Jo is passionate about supporting students in clinical placements and teaching leadership and management in healthcare. She is committed to creating inclusive, innovative learning environments that prepare students for success both in university and in practice.
Maria Cozens
Maria Cozens is a Senior Lecturer and Lead for Inclusive Practice at the University of Roehampton, where she has worked since November 2022. A registered dual field nurse in Intellectual Disabilities and Mental Health, she is passionate about nursing, education, and amplifying marginalised voices.
With over a decade of experience in healthcare education, Maria leads a range of modules on Roehampton’s nursing programmes and is the Programme Leader for the MSc Nursing (Integrated Pathway). Her research interests include stigma, hidden disabilities, oppression, and bullying among unregistered health and social care staff.
Debby Hylton
Debby Hylton joined the University of Roehampton in June 2023. A Registered Adult Nurse and SCPHN Health Visitor since 2007, she has practised in acute hospitals and diverse community settings across London.
Debby leads on the development and curriculum design of a child-specific module for second-year Children’s Nursing students. Her expertise includes biosciences, public health, safeguarding, health promotion, and integrated care. She has contributed to various community health projects and has published both articles and book chapters.
She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and is committed to advancing professional academic practice.

Your academic hosts: Deborah Jermyn
Dr Deborah Jermyn is Associate Professor in Film & Culture. She specialises in popular and genre cinema as well as women's filmmaking, and is the author/editor of 11 books, including work on audience studies, the directors Kathryn Bigelow and Nancy Meyers, and reality TV formats. Her teaching includes the first year module 'Understanding Film Language', where she loves introducing students to some of the key terminology and aesthetic techniques used to produce meaning in cinema. Her latest article, due out this autumn, examines the Gina Prince-Bythewood action-movie, The Old Guard (2020).
Karine Chevalier
Karine Chevalier is Senior Lecturer in Film at Roehampton since 2007. She is as well a filmmaker. Her main research interests lie in the field of French Cinema, Visual Arts and Aesthetics, Francophone Postcolonial Studies as well as Filmmaking.

Your academic hosts:
Andrew Wareham
Andrew Wareham teaches primarily on the BA History degree, with modules such as Cities and Empires in the Atlantic and Latin America. He is the director of a British Academy Research Project and is currently working on a book examining inequality in British cities. Outside of history, he enjoys travelling, walking, music, and getting lost in London.
He will be joined by Mark Wilson, a specialist in British history who teaches on the Diversity Modules and convenes the London Art History Society course. Dr Wilson is currently working on articles exploring early modern propaganda and print in the political world. In addition to his academic expertise, he brings a wealth of pedagogical knowledge, which he uses to support students across the modules he teaches.
Ian Kinane teaches on the BA in English Literature, specialising in popular literature and culture, genre fiction, and children's literature. He is the General Editor of the International Journal of James Bond Studies (which is a thing!), and his current research explores notions of bi-erasure in popular culture more broadly. He is currently compiling an edited collection titled Bisexuality and Popular Culture.
Outside of work, Ian enjoys playing with his cat Sylvie, making theatre, working with young people, and—of course—reading. He looks forward to meeting new students.

Sara is a leading expert in community and socially engaged dance, internationally recognised for her work on dance and Parkinson’s, including collaborations with English National Ballet and Dance for PD. Her book Dancing with Parkinson’s (2019) is a key text in the field.
She is a National Teaching Fellow, Director of the Centre for Research in Arts and Creative Exchange at Roehampton, and co-author of the open-access guide Soft Skills in Dance. A sought-after speaker and former Chair of People Dancing, Sara continues to support global community dance through research, consultancy, and professional development.

Dr Fengling Tang
Senior Lecturer in Early Childhood Studies, is the Programme Leader for BA/FdA/Top Up Early Childhood Studies and Froebel Professional Certificate in Early Childhood at University of Roehampton. Dr Tang is the Co-Convenor for the British Educational Research Association Early Childhood Education and Care Special Interest Group. Dr Tang is an Executive Committee Member of the International Froebel Society. Dr Tang is also a member of Early Childhood Studies Degree Network Policy, Lobbying and Advocacy Strategy Group. Dorothy Kwagala-Igaga, senior lecturer and Deputy Head of school
Legal Practice: Dorothy qualified as an advocate in Uganda in 2002 and practiced in Kampala before moving to the UK in 2006. She practiced as a criminal defence advocate at the Public Defenders’ Association of Uganda. She also taught at the Law School, Makerere University Kampala.
Teaching: Dorothy teaches the Law of Tort, Tax Law and Medical Law and Ethics at undergraduate level. She joined Roehampton Law School in June 2016 from Kingston University where she taught Tort and English Legal System and Legal Method between 2011 and May 2016.

Join Anthony Barlow, Programme Leader and Programme Lead for Geography Education at the University of Roehampton, for an insightful session on our Primary Education (QTS) programme. With Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching primary-age children in Bolton and Hillingdon, London, Anthony brings a wealth of expertise in teacher training and primary education.
His research focuses on how children and teachers understand their local environment, and he is a trustee of the Geographical Association. He is also the author of Mastering Primary Geography (2019, Bloomsbury).

Chrissy is the Head of Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Roehampton, developing the new Undergraduate programme launching in September 2025. With 22 years of NHS experience, she’s worked with diverse client groups and emphasizes team collaboration and person-centered care.
Formerly Head of Education at a hospice, she led simulation-based learning for palliative care. Chrissy is also a PhD student at the University of Chichester, researching narrative in end-of-life care education.
