UK Government Loans for postgraduate students

Government loans are available for postgraduate Masters students including MBA, MRes, MPhils. However, PhDs, Postgraduate Diplomas (PGDip) and Certificates (PGCert) have been excluded. New students starting after 1 September 2019 will be offered loans of up to £10,906.

The UK government will offer loans of up to £25,700 for students starting on or after 1 August (£25,000 for students starting before 1 August 2019) to support students wishing to undertake a PhD who are not in receipt of UK Research Council funding. These loans will be available to English-resident students and support all types of doctorate degrees at universities within the UK.

All UK and EU students (excluding online students) starting a postgraduate taught course in 2020 are entitled to a loan from the Government.

Postgraduate Scholarships – UK and EU (2020/21 academic year)

Esports Scholarships

Up to 20 cash scholarships, worth £1500 per year of your degree, are available to students who demonstrate aptitude in esports.

Key Information

  • The scholarships are awarded based on an assessment of an additional online application, and subsequently approved by a panel.
  • They can be combined with any other scholarship.
  • The scholarships are available to students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including international and full-year study abroad students.

Alumni Discount

A 20% tuition fee discount for all UK, EU and international alumni holding a full Roehampton undergraduate degree or postgraduate qualification and those who studied here on an exchange/study abroad programme who wish to return to the University of Roehampton to undertake a higher programme of study.

Key Information

  • Applicants must be enrolling in a programme which is taught on campus.
  • This discount is not available in conjunction with the International Excellence Scholarships.
  • Awarded based on assessment of evidence.
  • All alumni from short courses including Pre-sessional, International Foundation Certificate, Pre-masters Certificate, Foundation Degree, CPD are exempt from this discount.

Roehampton Music Scholarship

The University of Roehampton offers music scholarships to students demonstrating high levels of excellence in music. They enable undergraduate and postgraduate students to meet some of the costs of developing their talents through lessons, courses, or the purchase of relevant equipment (instruments/strings/sheet music). In return, music scholars enhance the cultural life of the University through performances and other activities.

The cash scholarships are worth up to £1200 per year. Successful recipients also receive travel and entry costs for competitions and gym access.

  • The scholarships are awarded by the Director of Music, based on an assessment of an application and audition.
  • They can be combined with any other scholarship.
  • They are available to home and international students.

Scholarship for Sporting Excellence

The University is dedicated to giving its students the opportunity to play sports at all levels. We recognise the difficulties students encounter trying to balance academic studies with training and competition schedules. Alongside the scholarship, we offer a support network designed to encourage talented sports men and women to meet their full potential in their academic studies, as well as their chosen sport.

Cash scholarships worth between £500 and £1500 per year. Successful recipients also receive travel and entry costs for competitions and gym access.

Key Information

  • The scholarships are awarded by the Sport and Active Communities Manager after enrolment, based on an assessment made during an application process.
  • They can be combined with any other scholarship.
  • They are available to home and international students.

We reserve the right to adjust the value, volume and eligibility criteria of our scholarship and bursary programmes.

All scholarships offered by Roehampton are awarded based on you completing the year of study for which they are granted. If you withdraw or interrupt your studies during the course of an academic year, you will only be entitled to the proportion of scholarship that relates to the period that you have completed, and will become liable for any tuition fee shortfall as a result.
