UK Government Loans for postgraduate students

Government loans are available for postgraduate Masters students including MBA, MRes, MPhils. However, PhDs, Postgraduate Diplomas (PGDip) and Certificates (PGCert) have been excluded. New students starting after 1 August 2020 will be offered loans of up to £11,222.

The UK government will offer loans of up to £26,445 for students starting on or after 1 August 2020, to support students wishing to undertake a PhD who are not in receipt of UK Research Council funding. These loans will be available to English-resident students and support all types of doctorate degrees at universities within the UK.

Postgraduate Tuition Award

What’s on offer?

The Postgraduate Tuition Award entitles recipients to a 20% tuition fee discount for those affected by redundancy, starting a taught Master's programme at the University of Roehampton in January 2021.

Eligibility and Conditions

  • You must have made an application to study a taught Master's programme at the University of Roehampton starting in January 2021.
  • You must be a Home fee-assessed student.
  • You must have been made redundant from a full time (a minimum of 30 hours employment per week) permanent job role within the previous six months (i.e. between 1 August 2020 and 31 January 2021) and have documented proof of this redundancy e.g. a letter of dismissal by reason of redundancy.
  • This discount cannot be combined with any other discounts, bursaries or scholarships.

How to apply

Anyone interested in the Postgraduate Tuition Award should apply for their programme of interest through our online application form.

Then send documented proof of your recent redundancy to Postgradadmissions@roehampton.ac.uk with your Full Name and Date of Birth, stating your intention to apply for the Postgraduate Tuition Award. You must do this within 24 hours of submitting your online application.

You can expect to hear from the Admissions Team about whether your application for the award has been successful within seven working days.  


Postgraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship

The Postgraduate Academic Excellence scholarship is available for Home fee assessed UK students on Postgraduate Taught courses who have obtained a First-Class undergraduate degree from a UK University.

What's on offer?

A 20% tuition fee discount. Please note that the discount cannot be used in conjunction with any other discount, bursary or scholarship.

How to apply

No additional application is required. Applicants should apply for their programme of interest through our online application form. Eligibility will be automatically considered. Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be notified when they receive their offer.

Eligibility and conditions

  • You must have made an application to study a taught Master's programme at Roehampton University London starting in January 2021, April 2021 or September 2021
  • You must have achieved a First-Class honours degree from a UK University
  • You must be a Home fee-assessed student
  • This discount cannot be combined with any other discounts, bursaries or scholarships

Esports Scholarships

Up to 20 cash scholarships, worth £1,500 per year of your degree, are available to students who demonstrate aptitude in esports.

Key Information

  • The scholarships are awarded based on an assessment of an additional online application, and subsequently approved by a panel.
  • They can be combined with any other scholarship.
  • The scholarships are available to students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including international and full-year study abroad students.

Roehampton Women in Esports scholarship

Up to four scholarships available to first year students starting in September 2020, each worth up to £1,500 a year. The programme aims to improve diversity and inclusivity in the esports industry and to inspire the next generation of women esports professionals.

  • The scholarships are awarded based on an assessment of an additional online application, and subsequently approved by a panel.
  • They can be combined with any other scholarship.
  • The scholarships are available to students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including international and full-year study abroad students.

Alumni Discount

A 20% tuition fee discount for all UK, EU and International alumni holding a full Roehampton undergraduate degree or postgraduate qualification and those who studied here on an exchange/study abroad programme who wish to return to the University of Roehampton to undertake a higher programme of study.

Key Information

  • Applicants must be enrolling in a programme which is taught on campus.
  • This discount is not available in conjunction with the International Excellence Scholarships or Academic Excellence Scholarships.
  • All alumni from short courses including Pre-sessional, International Foundation Certificate, Pre-masters Certificate, Foundation Degree, CPD are exempt from this discount.
  • This is awarded automatically, based on evidence of previous study at the University. A list of our postgraduate courses is available on our website.

Roehampton Music Scholarship

The University of Roehampton offers music scholarships to students demonstrating high levels of excellence in music. They enable undergraduate and postgraduate students to meet some of the costs of developing their talents through lessons, courses, or the purchase of relevant equipment (instruments/strings/sheet music). In return, music scholars enhance the cultural life of the University through performances and other activities.

The cash scholarships are worth up to £1,200 per year. Successful recipients also receive travel and entry costs for competitions and gym access.

Key Information

  • The scholarships are awarded by the Director of Music, based on an assessment of an application and audition.
  • They can be combined with any other scholarship.
  • They are available to home, EU and international students.

Scholarship for Sporting Excellence

The University is dedicated to giving its students the opportunity to play sports at all levels. We recognise the difficulties students encounter trying to balance academic studies with training and competition schedules. Alongside the scholarship, we offer a support network designed to encourage talented sports men and women to meet their full potential in their academic studies, as well as their chosen sport.

Cash scholarships worth between £500 and £1500 per year. Successful recipients also receive travel and entry costs for competitions and gym access.

Key Information

  • The scholarships are awarded by the Sport and Active Communities Manager after enrolment, based on an assessment made during an application process.
  • They can be combined with any other scholarship.
  • They are available to home and international students.

These scholarships are only available to current students at the University of Roehampton.

We reserve the right to adjust the value, volume and eligibility criteria of our scholarship and bursary programmes.

All scholarships offered by Roehampton are awarded based on you completing the year of study for which they are granted. If you withdraw or interrupt your studies during the course of an academic year, you will only be entitled to the proportion of scholarship that relates to the period that you have completed, and will become liable for any tuition fee shortfall as a result.
