Clearing guide for parents and guardians

Clearing can be a stressful time for both students and parents.

This guide will tell you how you can best support your child throughout the process.

What is clearing?

Clearing is an opportunity for students to go to university who:

  • Have changed their mind about what or where they want to study
  • Didn’t receive any other offers
  • Didn’t receive the grades they were expecting
  • Declined the offers they did receive
  • Want to apply after the 30th June.

How to apply to the University of Roehampton through Clearing

Courses available through Clearing will be visible on our website.

To secure a place in Clearing, your child will need to call our friendly admissions team on 0300 303 8320, they will help your child find the best course for them.

For the call, your child will need:

  • A list of their Level 2 qualifications (GCSEs or equivalent) and Level 3 qualifications (A levels, BTEC, Access etc.) and the grades they’ve achieved in each.
  • A UCAS ID number if they have one. If they’re not registered to UCAS for this cycle, don’t worry, we can still help – just give us a call.

Plan ahead

Look into alternative courses or foundation programmes before results day. A lot of our programmes follow similar paths.

Your child should write a few notes on each course and any questions they might have. Doing this research before results day will make the Clearing progress a lot less stressful.

Most importantly, stay calm and be supportive, there is no need to panic. Advise your child to take a step back and think about their options, talk it through with them.

If university is still the way forward for them, help them get organised. Make sure they have everything they need from the above for the call, and that they have done their research.
